LET’S LOOK AT THE HOLY SPIRIT

FIRST LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I HOPE YOU LEARN IN THIS STUDY.
1. THE ASSURANCE OF YOUR SALVATION……
2. THE REASON TO PRAY
3. HOW TO HAVE POWER IN YOUR PRAYER LIFE.
In Order To Have Power In Your Prayer Life You Have To Invoke The Help Of The Holy Spirit.

Far too many people believe the Christian life boils down to simply doing the best they can.  There are no dynamics, no power and there is no real distinction that can be attributed to anything other than discipline and determination.

Some believers’ doctrines can be summed up in 2 statements:
1. Nobody’s perfect
2. God understands.

This philosophy produces a long string of joys and sorrows with the promise of heaven at the end.  The real tragedy to this kind of thinking is that we loose out ability to function in our society the way God originally intended.

We are left here to be the light of our world.  We are an announcement of a coming kingdom and its King.  We understand that we are not perfect, but that is no excuse for not trying to be more Christlike.  We are not perfect and never will be.  God is looking for imperfect men and women who have learned to walk in moment-by-moment dependence on the Holy Spirit, Christians who have come to terms with their inadequacies, fears and failures and believers who have become discontent with just surviving and have taken the time to investigate everything God has to offer in this life.

If we could attain salvation on our own, then there would have been no need for God to send His Son, Jesus Christ.
If we could attain perfection on our own, there would have been no need for God to send us the Holy Spirit, and if the Christian life is simply a matter of doing our best, there was no need for God to send the Holy Spirit.

I believe the reason our prayer life is so weak is because we do not avail ourselves of the power of the Holy Spirit.  There may be 2 primary reasons so many Christians have failed to take advantage of the help afforded by the Helper.

First, many preachers neither model the Spirit-filled life nor teach it.  This leaves many believers thinking, “just do the best you can” and remember God understands.

The other reason many believers miss out on the Spirit-filled life concerns their early days as Christians.  When you were born again an excitement bout this newfound life manifests itself by way of a whole lot of activity.  This burst of spiritual energy makes it thrilling to spend time with new believers.

New Christians are at church early, but do not pray enough even though they may show up at every Bible study, witness, and attend seminars.  They carry their Bibles everywhere.  They are just unstoppable.  This is also true of a believer who comes back to the Lord after a prodigal son-type experience.

All this is fine except for one small detail.  The energy source of all their activity is usually their own human strength, which is not fueled by the genuine joy that accompanies salvation or restoration.

The work of the Holy Spirit is vital to our prayer lives.
The Holy Spirit:

1. Convicts (John 16:8-11)
2. Illuminates (John 16:12-15)
3. Teaches (John 16:12-15)
4. Guides (Romans 8:14)
5. Assures (Romans 8:16)
6. Intercedes (Romans 8:26)
7. Directs (Acts 20:22)
8. Warns (Acts 20:23)

THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS BEEN SENT BY THE FATHER TO ASSIST YOU IN ALL THE PRACTICAL MATTERS OF CHRISTIAN LIVING.  HE IS YOUR NUMBER ONE HELPER.
THE HOLY SPIRIT KNOWS THE THOUGHTS OF GOD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT IMPARTS KNOWLEDGE TO BELIEVERS.  THE HOLY SPIRIT MAKES DECISIONS.

THE HOLY SPIRIT TAKES UP RESIDENCY IN BELIEVERS – FOREVER.  HE DOESN’T JUST PASS THROUGH.  HE MAKES US HIS HOME.  HE COMES TO STAY.  THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD – GOD IN US.  THE HOLY SPIRIT ONE OF THE TRINITY AND THE TRINITY OPERATES AS ONE. Gen. 1:27, Acts 5:1-4.

THE HOLY SPIRIT’S POWER CANNOT BE HARNESSED.  HIS POWER CANNOT BE USED TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE FATHER’S WILL.  HE IS NOT A CANDY DISPENSER.  HE IS NOT A VENDING MACHINE.  HE IS NOT A GENIE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO RUB HIS LAMP THE RIGHT WAY.  HE IS HOLY GOD.

IF WE ARE SAVED, WE HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. THEN WE CAN NOW STUDY HOW TO HAVE A POWERFUL PRAYER LIFE.  LET’S START BY LOOKING AT THE POWERFUL PRAYERS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.
