Thank You, God, for a Hundred Things

Thank you, God, for a hundred things
For the flower that blooms, for the bird that sings,
For the sun that shines,
And the rain that drops,
For ice cream and raisins and lollipops.

Thank you, God, for the gift of time
For the clocks that tick, and the bells that chime,
For days gone by,
For my boss and co-workers, for future cheers,
And seasons, and moments, for hours and years.

Thanks for the people who give life pizzazz
For folks who play sports, those who write and play jazz,
For friends and for families,
For folks of all races,
For hands that give help and for bright smiling faces.

Thanks for the planet you give as our safe home
For the sky with its clouds, for the oceans' white foam,
For the creatures and critters,
The lakes, falls and fountains,
For hills and for valleys, for canyons and mountains.

Thank you, God, for the gift of your Son
For the love Jesus shared, for the battle He won
Over death, for the promise
That He would be near
To lead and to guide and to hold us so dear.

Thank you, God, for a hundred things
For autumn and pumpkins, for dragonfly wings,
For Thanksgiving dinners,
For sea sides and shore,
For a hundred things, and a thousand things more.

No Time
Author unknown

I knelt to pray but not for long,
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.

So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Christian duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease.....

All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer
No time to speak of Christ to friends,
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.

No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need
But at last the time, the time to die.

I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God held a book;
It was the book of life.

God looked into his book and said
"Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down...
But never found the time"

Prayer
James Montgomery - 1818

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire,
Unuttered or expressed;
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.

Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear.
The upward glancing of an eye,
When none but God is near.

Prayer is the simplest form of speech
That infant lips can try;
Prayer the sublimest strains that reach
The Majesty on high.

Prayer is the contrite sinner's voice,
Returning from his ways,
While angels in their songs rejoice
And cry, "Behold, he prays!"

Prayer is the Christian's vital breath,
The Christian's native air,
Our watchword at the gates of death;
We enter heaven with prayer.

The saints in prayer appear as one
In word and deed and mind,
While with the Father and the Son
Sweet fellowship they find.

Nor prayer is made by man alone,
The Holy Spirit pleads,
And Jesus on the eternal throne
For sinners intercedes.

O Thou, by Whom we come to God,
The Life, the Truth, the Way;
The path of prayer Thyself hast trod:
Lord, teach us how to pray!

Wings of A Prayer
Helen Steiner Rice

Just close your eyes
and open your heart
And feel your worries
and cares depart...
Just yield yourself
to the Father above
And let Him hold you
secure in His love,

For He hears every prayer
and answers each one
When we pray in His name,
"Thy will be done" --
And the burdens that seemed
too heavy to bear
are lifted away
on the wings of prayer

Wait...My Child
Author Unknown

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried.
Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate,
And the Master so gently said, "Child, you must wait!"

"Wait?, you say, wait!" my indignant reply.
"Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is Your hand shortened? Or have You not heard?
By faith I have asked, and am claiming Your Word."

"My future and all to which I can relate
Hangs in the balance, and You tell me to wait?
I'm needing a 'yes,' a go-ahead sign,
Or even a 'no' to which I can resign."

"And Lord, You promised that if we believe
We need but to ask, as we shall receive.
And Lord, I've been asking, and this is my cry:
I'm weary of asking! I need a reply!"

Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate
As my Master replied once again, "You must wait."
So, I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut
And grumbled to God, "So, I'm waiting...for what?"

He seemed then to kneel and His eyes wept with mine,
And He tenderly said, "I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens, and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead, and cause mountains to run.
All you seek, I could give, and pleased you would be.
You would have what you want...but, you wouldn't know Me."

"You'd not know the depth of My love for each saint;
You'd not know the power that I give to the faint;
You'd not learn to see through the clouds of despair;
You'd not learn to trust just by knowing I'm there;
You'd not know the joy of resting in Me
When darkness and silence were all you could see."

"You'd never experience that fullness of love
As the peace of My Spirit descends like a dove;
You'd know that I give and I save ... (for a start),
But you'd not know the depth of the beat of My heart."

The flow of My comfort late into the night,
The faith that I give when you walk without sight,
The depth that's beyond getting just what you asked
Of an infinite God, who makes what you have last."

"You'd never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that 'My grace is sufficient for thee.'
Your dreams for your loved ones overnight would come true,
But, oh, the loss! if I lost what I'm doing in you!"

"So, be silent, my child, and in time you will see
That the greatest of gifts is to get to know Me
And though oft may My answers seem terribly late,
My wisest of answers is still but to wait"

Of All the Joys
Author Unknown

At times I'm so discouraged
with problems of the day
I fail to see the joyful things
that are along the way

When troubles overwhelm me
It's then my nerves may fray
that's when I need to take the time To simply sit and pray

Reflecting on God's many gifts
It makes me so aware
Of all the joy in little things
around me everywhere!

I must try to remember
though problems come my way
not to miss the joyful things
and the beauty of the day.

I Asked the Lord to Bless You

I asked the Lord to bless you
As I prayed for you today.
To guide you and protect you
As you go along your way.

His love is always with you,
His promises are true,
And when we give Him our cares you know
He will see us through.

So when the road you're traveling on
Seems difficult at best,
Just remember I'm here praying,
And God will do the rest.

From Fear into Faith
Margaret E. Sangster

Father, do Thou this day free me-
From fear of the future;
From anxiety from the morrow;
From bitterness toward anyone;
From cowardice in face of danger:
From laziness in face of work;
From failure before opportunity.
From weakness when Thy power is at hand.

But fill me, I beseech Thee, with-
Love that knows no barriers:
Courage that cannot be shaken:
Faith strong enough for the darkness;
Strength sufficient for my tasks;
Loyalty to Thy Kingdom's goal;
Wisdom to meet life's complexities;
Grace to meet life's perplexities;
Power to lift me unto Thee.

God knows, not I, the reason why
His winds of storm drive through my door;
I am content to live or die
Just knowing this, not knowing more.
My Father's hand appointing me
My days and ways, so I am free.

On The Wings of A Prayer
Author Unknown

Just close your Eyes
And open your heart
And feel your worries
And cares depart
Just yield yourself
To the Father above
And let him hold you
Secure in his love

For life on earth
Grows more involved
With endless problems
That can't be solved
But God only ask us
To do our best
Then he will take over
And finish the rest

So when you are tired
Discouraged and blue
There is always one door
That is open to you
And that is the door
To The House of Prayer
And you'll find God
Waiting to meet you there

And The House of Prayer
Is no further away
Than the quiet spot
Where you kneel and pray
For the heart is a temple
When God is there
As we place ourselves
In his loving care

And he hears every prayer
And answers each one
When we Pray in His name
Thy will be done
The burdens that seemed
Too heavy to bear
Are lifted away
On the wings of a prayer

Ask Him
Author Unknown

You can ask and will be given
You can seek and ye shall find
That the door that leads to Jesus Christ
Stays open all the time

You can pray to our Lord of Lords
Hold daily chats with He
He who is the King of Kings
Whose truth shall set you free

You can Ask and He will save you
Anytime and Anywhere
God gave His only begotten Son
To show how much He cares

You can Ask Jesus Christ
Our Lord Today
To save your soul
For this is the only way
To be on Heaven's roll

My friends.....
The time may not be better
To receive Jesus Christ
As your Lord and Savior
Tomorrow may come and be too late

To Ask Him for this favor
He is there right now waiting patiently
With His arms reaching out for you
Waiting and wanting to save you
If only you will ask him to

A preacher cannot save you
Neither can I my friend
If you want Salvation
Won't you now Ask Him?
