If you put your Windows installation disk in, reboot, and read each prompt along the way, you can choose to do a repair installation. (This assumes that your PC is set up to boot from the CD first if it contains a bootable disk. Most PCs are set up that way in case of a problem like the one that you are having.) A repair installation wil replace any missing files with whatever is on the CD. It should allow you to bring your computer up. If there are any instances of the replaced file(s) that are more up-to-date, Windows update should download and install them for you once you're up again. That way, you won't need to install your drive on another PC as a slave so that you can retrieve the images stored on it. A repair installation just fix Windows. It will leave all of your personal files on your hard drive.
