What was the purpose of that?Do you ever have something happen and wonder "what was the purpose of that"? Or get ready for something and then have it not happen and wonder the same thing? I had one of those moments this past Sunday. We had a ladies meeting planned for 6pm. On Saturday morning when I was enjoying a nice, relaxing shower the wheels in my mind began to turn as they sometimes do and ideas for a skit began to come together. I don't have any engagements on my calendar but it felt good to finally have a skit ready ahead of time if the need arose. They usually only come together at the last minute. Later on Saturday afternoon our Ladies Ministries president called and asked me if I could do a skit at the next day's meeting. I was so relieved that I could tell her yes and not have to "sweat it".
Sunday dawned cold and threatening. The weather called for a mix of snow and freezing rain. Lots of our folks live up small side roads deep in the "hollers" and their roads don't get salted so they can't be safely traveled until snow and ice melts. It started to sleet and we took a look at the radar. Sure enough we were getting a band of the stuff that might last a couple of hours or more so we moved our church service back to 2pm. Needless to say, the ladies meeting got put off until next week and my skit is hanging in the wind.
I couldn't help but see the irony in the situation. When I get asked to do conferences far in advance, my skits don't come to me until the night before or the day of. Here, I had one all worked out and could relax and it didn't get used. I don't know why things like that happen, but I do know that if I always put my trust in God where my ministry is concerned, it doesn't matter. I know that if I am always open to the opportunities God gives me, I study and I pray, when I step up before God's people His Spirit will speak through me. My mouth will be filled with God's words rather than with my foot.

We clean our part out every now and again but when the water gets high it brings a bunch more down on us from upstream.

AHH! The littering habits of the folks upstream do seem to affect those downstream. Such is life.... and that principal applies itself in many things. Gee! That statement has got a lot of hidden meaning if you can just deciper it.
