WHAT IS PRAYER EXACTLY?

WHAT IS PRAYER EXACTLY?

Prayer is communicating with God. – Each time we pray, we come in contact with God in a profound and life changing way.

Prayer is praising and worshiping God for who He is. This takes our focus off of ourselves and places it on Him. It positions Him first in our hearts and allows Him full access to our lives. There is the fellowship side and the partnership side. The fellowship side of prayer is when we come just to be with God in the intimacy of relationship. The partnership side is when we exercise the responsibilities of partnering with Him to see the reintroduction of His rule into our circumstances. Worship, praise, adoration, and exaltation are an important part of fellowship with God, but it is also a means of partnering with Him to drive back the darkness,

Prayer is telling God we love and adore Him. It’s coming humbly before God and speaking to Him the way we would to someone we dearly love. Prayer is telling God how grateful we are that He loved us before we were even aware He existed.

Prayer is telling God we need Him. When we don’t pray, it implies that we think we can handle everything on our own. We need God for everything. When we pray we are saying, “I can’t live without you, Lord. If you don’t intervene in my life, nothing good is going to happen”.

Prayer is making our requests known to God. It’s sharing with Him all that is on your heart, knowing that He cares about each one of those things.

Prayer is serving God His way. It’s not just about us getting our needs met, although that’s an important part of prayer. God’s plan is to rule earth through His delegated authority. That’s us – we who believe in Him. God wants us to bring His kingdom to bear upon the issues of the earth. God has things for each of us to do, and they start with
Prayer.

IT MATTERS NOT WHETHER YOU PRAY SITTING, STANDING, PROSTRATE, HEAD BOWED OR HANDS LIFTED. YOUR POSITION WITH GOD IS DETERMINED BY YOUR HEART – PRAY UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Some people believe that prayer is one-way communication with God. Other people believe that it can be two-way communication. What do you think and what scriptures do you think correspond to this idea?
Thanks,
Carla

smiln32, I am so thankful that you are reading our material. Prayer is an untapped power source that most christians don't use. Prayer is definitely a two way communication. Our prayers should be our life - in a constant state of prayer. The power, strength and wisdom that is available is for all believers. Pray for me and I will pray for you,
Blessings,
ML

I grew up being taught it was one-way communication, then upon further study, re-evaluated my up-bringing. It's interesting, too, as I taught a ladies class at church a few months ago, I posed the same question to the ladies there and it was nearly divided in half. How I explained it to them, and I believe it to be true, is that for each of us, God will reach us where we are. If you believe prayer is communication from us to God, that is exactly what it will be. However, if you beieve that prayer is two-way communication between us and God, that is exactly what it will be.

Neither answer has to be exclusive and the people who believe each way can both be right. Our God is amazing.

Amen - God is amazing. I truly believe that we in order to be in obedience to God have to live our lives in a state of prayer. God communicates with us in many ways, primarily His Word, but also He communicates to us through our prayers being lifted up to Him and the feeling of peace, joy, knowledge, and release that comes to us is one way He speaks to us. Sometimes He uses others to speak to us, but I believe God answers all prayers, sometimes yes, sometimes no, and sometimes silence (all in His timing). Just keep praying.

God is so good. I just received news of an answered prayer. We pray for blessings for ourselves and others, and we pray for healing, we pray for guidance, protection, wisdom - we pray for everything. It is so good to know that we have a God who is able and does answer prayers. Sometimes we don't understand His timing or His method, but if we put our trust in Him, we know it is what is best for us. Blessings on you, ML
