We had to go to the farm today. It was time to worm the 4 horses we keep on pasture there. We were suprised to see how green the grass is already. The horses looked good except for the fact they were standing on the WRONG side of the fence! We tried unsuccessfully to find out where they got through. The fence was all intact and we couldn't find any hoof prints anywhere that would give us a clue. We had to take the fence apart to get them back on the right side. Then we brought them up to the barn and fed and wormed them.
When we pulled the truck up to the barn I noticed we were dragging a long piece of electric fence wire behind us. It was a strand that had been high in the air over the gate between the front and middle lots. Somehow it had been knocked down and it caught on our rear axle when we drove over it. Rather than crawl under the truck on the wet, muddy ground we decided we'd toss the loose ends into the truck bed and wait until we got home to take it off.
We finished feeding and worming and started for home. On our way out to the road we saw a part of the fence was down in the lot next to the road. So we had to work on fence in the rain, AGAIN! We didn't have any fence wire with us so I had to crawl under the truck on the wet, muddy ground and unwrap the length of electric fence wire from around the axle so we could use it to make a temporary repair. While I was doing that, DH cleared away the debris from the old fence and, unbeknownst to me, found a pipe gate leaning against the fence. He used it to fill the hole in the fence and tied it with baling twine that we never seem to run short of. I got to see what a nice job he had done with the repair when I crawled wet and dirty from under the truck with a mile or so of electric fence wire in my grubby hand. GRRRR Oh well. At least the fence was fixed.
We stopped at the barn on the way home to hay the horses there and close up the barn. While we were there one of our friends stopped by so we sat in the barn hall and watched the drizzle while we talked. Two hours later we all went home. I was about to freeze because I was still wet and muddy. I fed the chickens then fixed myself a bite to eat and hopped into the shower. It felt so good to be clean, dry and warm again.
