The things I get into!

We had quite a busy day today. Started off with our regular stop at Micky D's for breakfast. Ate with our friend James who we "work" with on the farm. He leases the farm and works in the coal mines. We keep 2 of our horses and a rooster there and we help him with his 1 mule, 1 donkey, 10 horses, flock of chickens and about 60 head of cattle. We are planning some future ventures with him and his wife Donna.

After breakfast we all drove out to the farm to take care of everything. We have a cow and calf penned up away from the others because the cow has been sick. She is recovering nicely now but we will keep her up a while as she cannot compete with the herd for feed. We noticed that the back left quarter of her udder was engorged. For some reason the calf had not been nursing it. Soooo, we had to catch her and milk it down. This is not a milk cow. She is a beef cow who is kept on a large bottom and never fooled with. Needless to say, it was quite a feat. My DH got a rope around her neck and tied her to a post in the lot and I had the job of milking her. I had to dodge her feet when she kicked, her snot and slobber when she threw her head and her body when she really got mad. I was slipping and sliding in the ankle deep mud and trying to keep a grip on those little short teats all at the same time. It was one wild ride!!!! But I got the job done and we have avoided a case of mastitis for the present time.

After we left the farm we went to a friends barn and looked at his horses. He has been trying to sell me a white carriage horse forever. I started grooming a nice chocolate yearling Rocky Mountain Horse stallion he bought not long ago. We visited for a while but we had to make a trip to Wally World so I didn't get to finish the job.

We drove to Walmart which is about 25 miles away in the next town. There were a few things we can't get anywhere else. Had supper at Micky D's there and then rushed home for the 1st meeting of the new saddle club being organized in our county. I took a few pictures for the paper and I have to make about 50 copies of the bylaws for tomorrow. I think I will wait until the morning to get those done.

I am pooped now and will soon be making my way to bed but I would like to leave you with this thought. While I was milking the cow and she was fighting my efforts to help her, James asked a question (from outside the fence *g*) "Why do they keep fighting when we are just trying to help them? Looks like they would figure it out." I immediately thought that we do the same thing when God is trying to help us. We fight Him and all His efforts to help us. He has plans for each of us, to prosper us, "...to give us a future and a hope..." and yet we fight Him at every turn. Because surely we know what is best for ourselves, right? It is hard to give control of our lives to God but we must if we are ever to be truly free. Trust Him with your life and you will never be sorry. God bless and keep you.

God's Warrior

EXcellent post! I am tired just reading about what all you do. I wouldn't last a week following in your footsteps. Wow!

I found this quote this morning and immediately thought of you. It must be a family thing, huh? Very Happy

Painting's not important. The important thing is keeping busy.
