Shaq is Back

Had a great day 2 days ago. I went for a trail ride on my big TWH gelding. His name is Shaq and he has quite a story. I bought him 2 years ago from a long term abusive home and did not know if he could be rehabilitated. I had even had to consider putting him down at one point as he had become so unpredictable and dangerous. But I continued to work with him and he began to make small steps toward improvement. Thankfully, he had been pushed to the brink but not over the edge. After much hard work, many setbacks, fair discipline, and understanding on my part and his, I can truly say he is the best horse I have ever owned. It is very satisfying and a deep joy to me. He is still not a trusting animal and may never be but he is relaxed and useful again and I know that makes him feel good about himself.

Isn't that what we all want from life; peace and purpose? I see myself in him. I have been abused by life and God never gives up on me. I have setbacks and He understands. With fair and loving discipline He gets me straightened out and we continue on together. One day this trail will lead me to Heaven where I will hear him say "well done my good and faithful servant" and I will be at peace with God forever.

What a beautiful story. I love it.  It is wonderful that you have been able to save such a beautiful animal and make him useful again. I also really appreciate the comparisons to your life and final rewards in heaven.

By the way, how's about doing us a favor and posting some pictures of your new addition to your horse family?

I would love that and I know that everyone else would too.

I'll do my best to get it done tomorrow. He is sooo cute!

No hurry!  I just thought it would be great to share him with our viewers.  He is beautiful and Shaq is such a delight.  You "done good" girl!

Rode Shaq Man again today. He is a handful. Always ready to go and hard to hold. I'm going to have to try a little bigger bit on him. I'm using a small one now and I imagine since he was shown padded for years he was used to a walking bit to lean on. I'll have to go to one and see if that brings him in hand a little better. But he is a sweet heart and is really enjoying being ridden again. I think we are all happier when we feel useful.

Shaq is still doing great. I have been on several trail rides and even taken him camping. Didn't know how he would do overnight on a tie line but I needn't have worried. He was great. He is such a joy to ride and he is really turning heads. I am hoping to show him this weekend. I can only hope I give God the kind of pride of me that I have in Shaq. More than pride, I am just so happy for Shaq. The fact that he has recovered and is now happy and content with his life.

That is awesome, Cajun.  I was grinning from ear to ear while reading that. I will be anxious to know how he does if you get a chance to show him this weekend.  Try to get someone to take pictures if you do get to show him.  Very Happy

You can count on it. I'll be easy to spot. I'll be the one grinning like a mule eating briars. LOL

I haven't heard that old expression in a coon's age. I always did think it was really funny. I am looking forward to the winning and the grinning. Smile

We are considering taking "Nutty" Buddy for DH to show at halter. If he is acting okay I may also ride him in a class and let people know he is for sale. It all depends on how his feet are. We have been treating him for thrush. He is the one that ran out from under me when the deer came up under him out of the grass.
God's Warrior

I wiah you good luck with that. Maybe things will work out for  "Nutty" Buddy and he will do well both for himself and for you. Smile
