Organic GardeningOrganic Vegetables
All I have for this forum at the present time is this joke. Hopefully some of you can add some content here.
Post away please!
Man at the market: "My wife asked me to buy ORGANIC vegetables. Have these been sprayed with any poisonous chemicals?"
"No," replied the gardener,"you'll have to do that yourself."

Organic Disease & Pest Control for Gardeners
shazbot3
For diseases such as black spot, powdery mildew, etc; try the following:
Baking Soda Spray
1&1/2 tablespoons baking soda
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1&1/2 gal. + 1cuo of warm water
Combine the baking soda and oil in 1 cup warm water. Stir until the soda is dissolved. Add this mixture to the 1&1/2 gal warm water and stir til blended. Pour into sprayer and use immediately.
For powdery mildew:
Chamomile Tea
4-6 tablespoons dried chamomile leaves
2-3 cups boiling water
Place chamomile flowers in a heat-resistant container. Pour boiling water over the leaves. Steep until cool.Place in a sprayer, and use within 2 to 3 days. Note: Avoid spraying chamomile tea in direct sunlight as it can damage the leaves of some plants.
For pests:
Orange Delight
2 lemons
1 orange
1 qt. boiling water
Grate the citrus rind and place in heat-proof container. Pour the boiling water over the rinds. Cover, and steep until cool. Strain into a hand-held sprayer & apply.
Bug Spray
7 cloves garlic-crushed
1 tablespoon powdered cayenne peper
3 cups hot water
Place garlic in heat-proof container. Add pepper, and pour hot water over mixture. Stir well to combine. Allow mixture to steep for 2 to 3 days. Strain and pour into han-held sprayer. Caution: cayenne pepper can cause skin blisters & eye irritation. Practice care when using this mixture.

Thank you so much for posting that, Shaz. As you know, I asked you to see if you could find something about spraying baking soda water on roses for blackspot but I didn't expect to get the rest of that interesting info. to boot. Thanks a lot and the roses get sprayed today. We sprayed the large bed with the usual remedies that we buy but the other bed has a ground cover of almost ripe strawberries and we want to eat them. I wasn't interested in eating them if they had fallen victim to the usual sprays.

You lucky duck! My strawberries are June-bearers. They're just now setting blooms, and I need to get the slug stuff put around them soon, or I'll be picking half-eaten berries again this year.
They say you can put beer in a yellow container to draw the slugs to it and they'll drown in it. But I've got so many slugs in my berry patch, I'm afraid they'd all just drink it,; and then I'd have a bunch of drunk slugs hanging out in the strawberries...
Elena
And everyone at the market will think that you are one big beer drinker!

Lol, yep! maybe if I just drink the beer myself, I won't even care about those darn slugs.
