My Uncle has lukemiaI am requesting prayer for my Uncle Jerry. He is my Mom's twin. He was recently diagnosed with a rare form of lukemia. His doctor has only treated 2 such cases in his career. The meds are not working as they had hoped so my uncle left North La. today and has gone to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for some testing in hopes they will be better able to help him. My uncle is a Christian and is depending on God to get him through this trial. I know he and his family will appreciate your prayers very much.

I will be praying for your uncle, Jerry. The doctors at MD Anderson are wonderful and I feel certain that if anyone can help him, they can. Please let us know what he finds out from them after they have run all of their tests.
Thank you so much for posting a picture of him so that we can visualize what he looks like when we are praying for him. I simply must remember to do that whenever possible for folks also. A dear friend of mine called me recently and asked me to send her a picture of my sister by email so that she could post it on her bulletin board and be able to see her picture when she was praying for her.

PictureI like that picture of him. He does not look his best but he is doing something he enjoys very much. He only took up painting a couple of years ago. He lives by Northwestern Louisiana University and they offer one free class per semester to seniors so he took up painting. He had wanted to try it for some time and we have quite a few other relatives who paint. We are actually related to the famed Grandma Moses. He said if it was good enough for her he could do it too. LOL He turned 76 last August.

That is a great picture. I think that is wonderful that he is enjoying his new hobby so much. Grandma Moses, huh? Now that is truly family talent!!! Your uncle is just a tad older than my husband who turned 75 in August.

UpdateGot an update from my cousin last night. Uncle Jerry had tests done at MD Anderson and they agreed with the initial diagnosis. They have some additional treatments they can use with the Procrit so he is on his way home today.
Thankyou all for praying for him. I will keep you posted as to his progress.

I will be praying that the new meds will "do the trick" for him.
They are also coming up with new treatments for cancer every day so we need to pray that something will come available that will help him for certain.

Cajun, have you heard from your uncle lately? If so, how is he doing? I hope his new medication is working well for him. I am still remembering him in prayer. Please give him my Christian love and best wishes when you communicate with him.

The medicine has not started working yet. His blood count was down to 7.8 and he had to have another transfusion yesterday. Thankyou for praying for him.

I got an update on my uncle this morning. He is doing better and had a good visit with the oncologist today. His blood count only dropped slightly and he will not need a transfusion this week. He and my aunt are in Olympia, WA house sitting and pet sitting for their DD and DSIL who are on a trip. He hopes to make a trip to France in June if he is feeling up to it. I'll keep you posted and I very much appreciate your prayers for him and the family.

Wanted to update everyone on my uncle's condition. The doctor's have tried several different meds on him. One seemed to be working well but had to be changed due to side effects. He is still getting transfusions every few weeks. He had a bad bout with bronchitis so he is down a bit now. Please continue to pray for him. He has been on my mind a good bit as of late. Thank you.

My uncle went back to MD Anderson and they started him on another med. It is the last one they have to try for him. It is early yet but it looks like it may be working for him. Please keep him in your prayers. Thanks!

Maybe the new med will work for him. I will continue praying that it will. One thing about it, if there is a cure for him, he is in the best place in the world to find it.

Yes, they are very good there. The only place that may be better is Cancer Centers of America. They are a Christian organization and don't exclude God from their work. I'm sure that would be comforting in such a situation.

Wanted to let you all know that the new med is working great. Uncle Jerry's blood count is climbing and the doctors are very happy with his progress. Thank you all for your prayers on his behalf.

Praise the Lord for answered prayers for your uncle Jerry. That is so wonderful. Our Lord is in the miracle business and it is always such a JOY observing each new miracle that we are priviledged to see.
You asked me how my sister Gail is doing. Praise the Lord again because she is doing GREAT! The doctors are overjoyed with her progress. There are no signs of the cancer now. Can you believe that? YEP! Thanks to our wonderful Lord and the marvelous medical staff at MD Anderson, she is not experiencing any problems and has been back working full time as a college math teacher since she took thzt summer break to start her treatment and then went back in the fall. She has a full and active life and is now 69 years old as of April this year.
