I had quite a scare this morning concerning my dog, Galloway.
I let him out early this morning to "do his business". He always goes down by the creek in the back yard and then comes back to the front door. ( We live on a busy highway ) This morning he was bitten by wanderlust and instead of coming back to the door he crossed the bridge on the street beside the house and into the vacant lot behind us. Then the school traffic started with all the buses and parents vehicles crossing the same bridge he had used. ( There is a middle school on the mountain behind our house ) Not being used to the traffic, as he is always kept home, he became frightened and instead of returning to his source of safety, our house, he ran away into the unknown. It all ended happily after an hour of prayer and searching but it made me think.
Many times people are just like Galloway. We get wanderlust and go out into the world. Just like him we know it is not in our best interest but we indulge ourselves regardless. And when circumstances and situations frighten us as the traffic frightened him, we run away from our source of safety as he ran away from the safety of home. God is our safe haven. It may be a bad report from the doctor, an unexpected expense, loss of a job or perhaps betrayal by a trusted friend or family member. God wants us to run toward Him, to seek our comfort and peace from Him. He is the source for whatever we may need and it gives Him pleasure to care for us. Run to Him today and let Him care for and comfort you as only He can.

My own thoughts!
I would have been devastated had anything bad happened to him. And of course I would have blamed myself as I was the one who let him out and did not check on him sooner. Now he cannot go out unless someone goes with him and waits for him to finish. He doesn't care for the rules but he will have to live with them. *g*
