Following Jesus

You Ask Why I Follow This Jesus
Author Unknown

You ask why I follow this Jesus?
Why I love Him the way I do?
When the world's turned away from His teachings
And the people who serve Him are few.

It's not the rewards I'm after
Or gifts that I hope to receive
It's the Presence that calls for commitment
It's the Spirit I trust and believe.

The Lord doesn't shelter His faithful
Or spare them all suffering and pain,
Like everyone else I have burdens,
And walk through my share of rain.

Yet He gives me a plan and a purpose,
And that joy only Christians have known,
I never know what comes tomorrow,
But I do know I'm never alone.

It's the love always there when you need it;
It's the words that redeem and inspire,
It's the longing to ever be with Him
That burns in my heart like a fire.

So you ask why I love my Lord Jesus?
Well, friend, that's so easy to see,
But the one thing that fills me with wonder is
Why Jesus loves someone like me.

The True Course
Anonymous

"Jesus saith unto him,
I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."
(John 14:6)

My heading set,
my course laid.
I cannot shrink
from duty made.

And should I falter,
I but pray,
that GOD in mercy
show me The Way.

When Jesus Looks
~ Author Unknown ~

When Jesus looks upon my life
What picture does he see?
Does he see his own reflection
Or does he just see me?

Does he see his likeness
The product of His hand
Or just another Christain
Who never took a stand

Does he see a child of God
A child that He set free
Living life to honor Him
Or does He just see me?

What about the other folks
I meet along the way
Do I show them Jesus
To brighten up their day

When someone looks into my eyes
Can they truly see
That calm and gentle peace of God
That dwells inside of me

When I reach out and shake a hand
Is He right there in my grip
Can they feel that strength from God
That steadies me when I slip

When folks are in my presense
Do they know His spirits there
Can they see that He's the one
Who guides me everywhere

When other people think of me
What is on their mind
Do they think of Jesus Christ
So gentle and so kind

I try to be like Jesus
Every single day
Spreading love and kindness
All along my way

I'm afraid that I have failed
I could not pass the test
Deep inside my heart I know
I haven't done my best

I have had to fight my flesh
Since the day I was born
It's always causing trouble
And being such a thorn

That's why His spirit dwells in me
He's helping me to learn
In every situation
Where I need to turn

He knew I'd never pass the test
That's why he took my place
HE GAVE HIS LIFE TO SAVE MY SOUL
He suffered my disgrace

Now I try to be like him
I must present Him well
So other folks will want His gift
And turn their backs on hell

Other folks should see the joy
That Christ has given me
They should want to have it too
Especially since it's free

They should begin to ask me
What it is they must do
Just how it is they go about
Getting Jesus too

Then I get to tell them
This wonderous gift is free
It only takes a humble heart
A prayer on bended knee

Someday when I'm face to face
With the Lord who set me free
Will he see his own reflection
Or will he just see me?

Give Your Life to Jesus
Author Unknown

When life seems too much to handle
And you know not what to do
Just look up toward the Heavens
For He has a smile for you

When you think that there's no answer
When you feel you can't get through
Just look up toward the Heavens
And He will help you too.

When sickness makes you weary
And you think you can't go on
Just look up toward the Heavens
And he will make you strong.

And when you lose a loved one
And you wonder what went wrong
Just turn your faith to Jesus
For He is never gone.

He stays beside your bed at night
He hears you when you cry
He knows whatever fears you have
He's always by your side.

He only wants to hear from you
It matters not the time
He only asks you speak His name
And spread His word divine.

He never will forsake you
Like other people might
He's given you His word on this
He will shower you with light.

He only asks you talk to Him
At least once every day
And say your prayers at nighttime
And Never stray away.

For you can talk to Jesus
No matter where you are
He always takes the time for you
He cares for you so far.

So far as you believe in Him
And know what’s right from wrong
For there is no love greater
Than knowing you belong.

So give yourself to Jesus
And let him lead the way
To a life that’s filled with beauty
A life of love today.

Lord, it belongs not to my care,
Whether I die or live;
To love and serve Thee is my share,
And this Thy grace must give.

If life be long I will be glad,
That I may long obey;
If short -- yet why should I be sad
To soar to endless days?

Christ leads me through no darker rooms
Than He went through before;
He that unto God's kingdom comes,
Must enter by this door.

Come, Lord, when grace has made me meet
Thy blessed face to see;
For if Thy work on earth be sweet,
What will Thy glory be!

Then shall I end my sad complaints,
And weary, sinful days;
And join with the triumphant saints,
To sing Jehovah's praise.

My knowledge of that life is small,
The eye of faith is dim;
But 'tis enough that Christ knows all,
And I shall be with him.

What You Will Be

As I gazed up at the mountains, I was awed by their majesty;
I bowed my head and asked myself, "Why should He care for me?
I am not great like the mountains that tower so high above,
What is there about me that God can find to love?"

"Father, I am not strong like the wind that makes your tall trees sway,
I cannot sing sweetly like your birds; will you love me anyway?
But most of all, I am simply me, and often have cause to fear,
In spite of all my weaknesses, do you promise to be near?"

With eyes closed tight against my tears, I wished He could hear me pray.
Then I felt His Spirit tell me, "Child, look up, I have something to say.
"You are simply you, the spirit I love, a part of my great plan.
I put you here to learn of life and to return to me again."

"You are more beautiful to me than the loveliest mountain I made,
And your strength exceeds that of the wind's, so do not be afraid.
I love you not for what you are, but for what I know you will be.
I am always beside you watching you grow, you are very special to me."

A smile touched my lips - I knew it was true, my Father had always been there
Giving me comfort and blessings and love and my own special talents to share.
So I do my best to make Him proud. I am not afraid, for you see,
He loves me not for what I am, but for what He knows I will be.

Outside the Camp

The Lord said unto Moses... Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee. Exodus 32:33,34

And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the Tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp. Exodus 33:7

Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp, bearing His reproach. Hebrews 13:13

Outside the Camp

Outside the camp with Jesus,
Oh, blessed, precious place,
Where He has called us to Himself
Through wondrous, matchless grace.
Apart from all that would distract,
Would hinder or would dim,
The fullness of communion sweet,
And fellowship with Him.

Outside the camp with Jesus,
'Tis He who makes the call,
To His beloved far and wide
To own Him Lord of all.
Outside the camp, where nothing else
But Jesus fills the heart,
Where He, the center of our thought,
Doth peace and joy impart.

Outside the camp with Jesus,
Just gathered to His Name,
Where He Himself is in the midst
Forevermore the same.
The Holy Spirit leads the way
When giv'n His rightful place,
To take the precious things of Christ,
Revealing matchless grace.

Outside the camp with Jesus,
'Tis Jesus fills our gaze
When He's the object of our thought,
Our theme of endless praise.
'Tis such a peaceful, precious place,
A blessed portion this,
A foretaste of the joys to come,
In Heav'n's eternal bliss.

I take my place, Lord Jesus,
Outside the camp with Thee,
Apart from all that interferes,
From worldly service free.
Just gathered round the Lord Himself,
Remembering Thy love,
Enjoying there Thy presence
Till we meet Thee Lord, above.

God will never leave you, not once you have
asked Him into your heart, and let His will be done!

Peace
Henry van Dyke

With eager heart and will on fire,
I strove to win my great desire.
"Peace shall be mine," I said; but life
Grew bitter in the barren strife.

My soul was weary, and my pride
Was wounded deep; to Heaven I cried,
"God grant me peace or I must die";
The dumb stars glittered no reply.

Broken at last, I bowed my head,
Forgetting all myself, and said,
"Whatever comes, His will be done";
And in that moment peace was won.

Jesus Held His Peace

The day when Jesus stood alone
And felt the hearts of men like stone,
And knew he came but to atone -
That day "He held His peace."

They witnessed falsely to His word,
They bound Him with a cruel cord,
And mockingly proclaimed Him Lord;
"But Jesus held His peace."

They spat upon Him in the face,
They dragged Him on from place to place,
They heaped upon Him all disgrace;
"But, Jesus held His peace."

My friend, have you for far much less,
With rage, which you called righteousness,
Resented slights with great distress?
Your Saviour "held His peace."

ONE DAY AT A TIME

One day at a time, and the day is His day;
He hath numbered its hours, though they haste or delay
His grace is sufficient; we walk not alone;
As the day, so the strength that He giveth His own.
