Oh boy, I did it this time! DH came home and told me they had a whole 16ft dump truck load of bamboo they'd had to cut and remove to get to a water main. Well... I asked what they were going to do with it, and he said "Dump it, duh!" So..I asked if they could dump it here-visions of arbors, trellises and the like running through my head. Well...they did.
Now, I have a mountain of skinned bamboo out there just waiting for me to get busy. Some of it is over 2" in thick, and 16'-20' long!!!!! Anyone wanna come help build??????? Also, anyone got any ideas for things to make with it?
He told me we could get another load, but we can't use the dump truck this time. Our little Ford Ranger just isn't big enough to go get it :(It's a shame, I sure would like to have had it ALL!!!!! I know, I'm nuts...but isn't that why we're all here??? LOL.
Shaz, basically the sky is the limit of what you can do with bamboo. You can make flower pots, furniture, arbors, a gazebo, a trellis and etc. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by skinned? bamboo, but if it is like the bamboo that grows here I'd probably build a basic stand/rack out of some of the bamboo first. That way you can lay the rest on it so it can dry/cure.
That's what we do, but we have never been so lucky to get a whole truckload! You go girl! Hopefully someone here will have a better way to dry it because I can already visualize the size of the stand(s) you would need. ;o)
By "skinned", I only meant the foliage is peeled off. Dh & DS got out there and did that yesterday Yep, there's a bunch, and it is LONG!!!!
What a find!!!!! Instead of visions of sugarplums dancing through my head, I am imagining all the things you can make with that. Did you do a search on the internet for actual pictures of things you could make?
Not yet. But I'm gonna
One of the things I had thought of doing was to make (cut off pieces) rows around cheap plastic flower pots. I don't know what method would work best but I am thinking of doing them the way whiskey barrels are done. Make sense?????
Hey! Yes ot does! Very cool idea! And what about flower bed borders, you know like the ones made of wood wired together? I think that would be pretty, too. Thanks for the ideas, girls
Perfect! You're gonna want all that bamboo now!
What a great freebie! I can hardly wait to see what you make!
Another new project for me for the next year. I will never live long enough to do all of the projects that I want to do since I keep adding to the list. Oh, well! It certainly does keep life interesting!
