Thoughts About Communion
By Smokey the Dog 07/07/08
As I was sitting at the guard desk at work I got to thinking over my previous post about communion. I began asking myself questions like "Who invented those tiny cups?" I know it's not very spiritual but it made me think further.
Those "tiny cups" represent the only dose of Jesus, the Church and Christianity that many people have. The original communion was part of a fellowship meal. There was more than a "tiny cup" and a "cracker" It was part of life, part of the every day practice of the believer. We however, have isolated communion to a once a quarter event at church. We have taken "communion" with God and Christ out of our daily lives and reduced it to a "cracker" and a "tiny cup".
John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
1Cor. 10:16-17 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we [being] many are one bread, [and] one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
Acts 2:42 They joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, sharing in the Lord's Supper and in prayer. _________________ You might be a dog lover if: There are more dog toys than people in your bed.
Unfortunately, it's become so trivialized that people don't understand the weight and significance of what they are doing. We're always in such a rush with busy schedules that the tiny cup and crumb make it easy for us to miss the reflection and introspection that should go along with communion. _________________ snookie
