This is a sort of poem that I wrote to be included in a book proposal I just sent to a publisher. It was a tribute to my wonderful ancestors, those beautiful women who raised me and taught me more than I can ever hope to remember. They never ever thought of themselves as beautiful on the outside, but oh my, how beautiful they were to me. I hope when I grow up I am just like them.
Thought I'd share it with you.
There is an old woman
Who lives down the road
She is wise but no longer lovely
She looks at your words
And sees there your soul
She is kind but no longer lovely
She sees your hearts needs
She sees through your tears
She is wise but no longer lovely
And she knows in her heart
The fears of your own
She is kind but no longer lovely
Like the wise sage of old
She sits on the stump
She is kind but no longer lovely
She hands out wise words
To those who have need
She is wise but no longer lovely
But if those words help
And perchance they heal
She is kind but no longer lovely
Then your sun will shine
And your hearts will leap
She is wise but no longer lovely
And if by chance, you pass her way
And a smile is shared in passing
Remember her words as you go your way
‘Cause she is wise but no longer lovely.
That poem describes you to a T, my friend, except for the fact that you are indeed one of the lovliest people I have ever known. You have an ageless beauty that reflects the goodness in your heart and soul. Have I ever thanked you for being my friend? THANK YOU!
