Last Monday DH and I signed up for a weight loss contest at our local community center. It's a contest for teams and goes by percentage of weight lost rather than pounds. DH is watching his carbs while I have chosen to limit my fat and sugar intake. I eat low fat / no fat for 5 days and eat what I want for 2 days. We had to weigh in this afternoon. DH lost 16 lbs. and I lost 10 lbs. I tied with another girl for the highest percentage lost for the week. I was so excited. But I have to be careful not to allow this success to cause me to relax and let down my guard. If I celebrate too much I'll be crying next Monday when I step back on the scale.

It's brings to mind the words of Paul. We have to run the race, fight the good fight. We can't relax and let down our guard lest we fall so far behind we miss out on Heaven. It's all important that we finish the race and hear our Lord say "Well done thou good and faithful servant".

That's a very good start, and a good spiritual comparison.

My second week did not go so well. I only lost a half pound. I was very discouraged because I can't figure out why there was so much of a difference. The only difference in my eating was a bit of sugar. Maybe that is the problem. At any rate, I did not give up and go off the wagon. I have been keeping up with the battle and did not take the 2 days off this week. Maybe since I am older and I am not as able to exercise any more, I won't be able to splurge a bit. We weigh in tomorow at 6pm so I will see if my adjustments have helped. Please remember me in your prayers. (DH lost another 5lbs.)

I don't know why, but it seems easier for men to get past those discouraging times of not losing like we think that we should.  I know my hubby never had the problems that I did concerning this. It can't be blamed on a right side, left side brain usage like so many things (Men are from Mars and women are from Venus thing) so the reason for this isn't clear to me. Smile

Hang in there, the 1/2 pound is still a loss. You might have lost a lot of water weight the first week. How did the other lady do? Are you and she on the same program?

I am very disappointed. I only lost another 1/2 lb this week. DH says he thinks I am not eating enough so I am going to eat more this week and drink more water. I am also going to walk more. Walking is the only exercise I can do anymore. I tried riding the bike last week but my hip hurt too bad.

Mary
Everybody does their own program. They just weigh you at the same time each week. You can weigh in early if you need to.

Please keep me in your prayers that I don't get too disappointed and want to quit.

DH stayed the same, no loss and no gain. He took up another hole in his belt but didn't lose any weight. We were in 3rd place but this will likely drop us off the radar.

You will show up again on the radar screen, never fear!

The only exercise I can do now is walking also but we just need to feel really glad that we can do that.  I used to prefer swimming but I am like you in the fact that I can't stand anything but warm water now. My body just can't handle cold any longer.

I wish I had a hot tub of my own. It would be so nice to be able to soak after a long, hard day at the barn.

I would love one too but my home is one with small bathrooms and absolutely not any place for a hot tub.  I might as well think about something else!   Smile
